A question that I get asked a lot when I am designing websites is “Do I need an About page?”.
The answer… a resounding YES! A well-designed website will attract people, but the content is what keeps them there. A poorly written About page is worse than not having one at all.
So what makes a great About page?
1. The Hook – start with something odd or unusual to hook the reader. Something that most other people don’t say or are afraid to say is a good place to start.
2. The Basics – Start with your name, job, and location. Add a personal detail here to build rapport with your visitor.
3. Brag a Little – Give yourself some props! Talk up an event or experience from your past and relate it to your visitor.
4. Give Some Background – Now that you’ve got their interest, talk about how you got started or how you got to where you are now. This is your chance to empathize with your reader.
You are now well on your way to writing the perfect content for your About page.
Best,
Zoe
